We collect anonymous usage statistics with the help of our analytics provider - Telemetry Deck. We have chosen Telemetry Deck as we believe their values and focus on privacy align with our values on privacy, and how we believe anonymous usage statistics should be collected in an applications. You can read their privacy policy here. Anonymised opt-in data may also be collected and provided by Apple, as part of the app being hosted on their store.
Petty requests your location to determine nearby petrol stations to you. Location permission is optional and you will be prompted by your device to either allow or deny this permission. If you deny, Petty has no access to your location. If you accept, Petty will use your location to show nearby petrol stations, as well as your location on a map with respect to petrol stations nearby.
As of v8.1.8 (iOS), the widgets and the Siri and Shortcuts actions send your coordinates to our server so that it can work out the closest or cheapest station for you. These requests are anonymous - the coordinates are not attached to an account, a device, or any other identifier, we have no way of identifying you from them, and we do not store them. The rest of the app filters stations on your device.
Petty also sends an anonymised location, with granularity to only the nearest state and country, to our analytics provider - Telemetry Deck. The precise location is not sent, and the data sent is not personally identifiable. It is only used to aggregate usage statistics about the total number of users in a particular state. More about this in the "Data providers" section.
The data for Petty is provided by various state governments. Some of these state governments request ongoing information about total aggregated usage - including but not limited to how many times prices were looked at for stations in a certain state, and how many unique users were there in a certain state. These usage statistics are anonymous, and only sent on as aggregate totals. The data providers do not have access to the data itself - we aggregate it and pass it along. We do not pass information along in a way that would identify a particular user, where they've been, or what they've looked at.
Petty communicates with our server to fetch the latest information to display in the app. No server logs or analytics are deliberately collected, however basic technical information may be collected by the default server configuration. Our server runs on Cloudflare Workers, and you can read their privacy policy here.
When you change or modify a preference or setting in Petty, this preference is stored locally on your device so that the app remembers it the next time it is launched. Some preferences may also sync via iCloud. You can opt-out of iCloud syncing by deleting relevant app data from iCloud and/or turning iCloud off on your device.
